Measuring Health. Improving Healthspan. Advancing Longevity.

Welcome

The Julian A. Jarman, MD Research Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing evidence-based methods for defining, measuring, and improving health.

Modern medicine has become remarkably successful at diagnosing and treating disease. It has devoted far less attention to defining and measuring health. That is the challenge the Foundation was created to address.

What is health?

We believe health is far more than the absence of disease. Health is a measurable state that can be improved through objective assessment, scientific evidence, and informed lifestyle decisions.

Our mission is to help individuals define, measure, improve, and maintain health throughout life while supporting research that advances the science of health optimization and longevity.

Our Work

The Foundation pursues its mission through four core pillars:

Define Health

Health is more than the absence of disease. We develop and promote an evidence-based definition of health that can guide research, prevention, and clinical care.

Measure Health

Health should be assessed objectively using physiology, body composition, fitness, biomarkers, and other evidence-based measures—not simply by the presence or absence of disease.

Improve Health

We support research and provide education that help individuals preserve health, function, independence, and quality of life throughout aging.

Evaluate Evidence

Scientific studies vary in quality and strength. The Foundation promotes rigorous evaluation of aging and longevity research through an evidence-based framework that distinguishes robust scientific evidence from speculation.

  Areas of Interest

The Foundation supports research that advances evidence-based methods for defining, measuring, and improving health. Our work emphasizes practical strategies to help individuals preserve health, function, and independence while reducing the burden of preventable disease.

Framework for Evaluating Aging Research

How should scientific claims about longevity be evaluated?

Not all studies provide the same level of scientific evidence. This Foundation position paper describes the evidence-based framework we use to distinguish robust scientific evidence from speculation and to guide our interpretation of aging and longevity research.
