The Foundation is named after Julian A. Jarman, MD, FACS.
Dr. Jarman was a Board Certified General Surgeon with Fellowship in Surgical Pathology.
He was distinguished as a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons.
Following graduation from The Medical College of Georgia in 1934 and surgical residency at Queens General Hospital in New York City, Dr. Jarman served in the Army Air Core during WW2 in the Pacific and thereafter in the newly formed Air Force during the Korean War.
He rose to the level of Colonel and received numerous military awards including the Bronze Star.
He retired from the Air Force in 1962 after serving for 26 years. His career included Surgical Department Head at numerous Air Force Base hospitals. His last position was as Chairman of Hospital Command at Andrews AFB in Washington, DC where he was in charge of oversight for all Air Force Hospitals on the Eastern Seaboard.
Dr. Jarman was extensively involved in medical research while in the Air Force.
Dr. Jarman’s post military career included being the first Medical Director of Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, Chief of Staff of the Veterans Administration Hospital and eventually Hospital Director.
He served as Chair of the Federal Executive Board in the 1970's.
